I have a board on Pinterest where I gather examples of mixed Media and digital Art Journaling pages, in the hope that one day I’ll sit down with some paper and paint and start creating. This week on Pinterest I repinned an image and then followed it back to its source, Melanie Testa.
Melanie has this wonderful book: Dreaming from the Journal Page – Transforming the sketchbook to art. It caught my imagination, I ordered it from Amazon and my postman delivered it this morning!
It’s a beautifully illustrated book in which Melanie talks first about journals, the materials, paints, pens, brushes, glues etc before moving on to the all important subject of colour. A good variety of techniques follow, each one detailed in easy steps and photographs. Chapter four is dedicated to drawing, with explanations to get you started and exercises to help you improve your skills. Then there are three challenges – each one guaranteed to keep you busy. Finally there’s a gallery of mixed-media inspiration.
I’m not saying that I’ll ever get round to making an art journal, or even a page. I’d like to think that one day I will, but if it doesn’t happen, this book is just so pretty to look at, I will simply enjoy opening it every so often.
This also illustrates that Pinterest is good for businesses, I doubt if I would have found this with random searches of the internet. Pinterest works!
